Agates, Amygdaloidal Type |
 |
The amygdaloidal agates
were formed by filling in the gas cavities within the
dark colored basalt and andesite lava rocks. Since the
basalt rocks tend to be good source of impurities
acting like coloring agents, the agates are well known
for their great variety of colors and shapes that
cannot be rivaled by any other minerals as
demonstrated by the fact that they had been widely
used in many lapidary arts for thousands of years.
