The basalt beds of southern Scotland have produced so many different types of colorful agates. Cupar and Lithrie agates are the most famed locations for best agates. Those types of agates were widely used in Victorian Era jewelry in United Kingdom. Many agates can be found on farmland after plowing, beaches, rivers and sometimes the quarries themselves.  Most are small but few large agates had been found including the largest one coming from Ardownie Quarry.
