.    They may be heavily fractured, but what makes them so awesome is that they managed to survive 2 to 2.78 billion years of tectonic activities and erosion. That's quite a big deal considering how a tiny percentage of precambrian rocks survived all the way to today. The agates came from a remote and desolate region in the western Australia and the area is better known for its massive iron ores and ancient "jaspallite" (red jasper and hematite banded rocks). Apparently, the red to pink agates came in the nodules and vein forms within the basalt rock hots. Since they had survived billions years of erosion, all agates are expected to be fractured.
