There are several locations
around Gobi Desert of Northern
China and Mongolia that produce various types of
agates. As typical
of the agates found the windy deserts, the surface
of the rough was smoothed
from so many centuries of sand carrying winds
("sandblasting") that they're
quite hard to hold while grinding/polishing. One
location produces the
agates that are mostly clear and occasionally with
contrasting banding
resembling those of Botswana agates. Nearby
locations produced the agate
with "chop-stick" blade-like inclusions. |

Rough Appearance: Very smooth surfaces from being
naturally sandblasted
by wind.
Most agates are clear, sometimes with faint banding and
inclusions,
rarely colorful.
