Rain Flower Agates
Yangtze River, China

Those colorful and strongly patterned agates were found along the shores of Yangtze River coming from the source somewhere up in the Himalayas Mountains on the side of Tibet and many agates have been broken and worn into well rounded flat pebbles. The characteristics of the agates are comparable to those of Brazilian Agates, Laguna agates and Lake Superior Agates. Some agates display the colors and patterns so well that it's not necessary to polish them while some agates would need some grinding and polishing to remove the crescent-like fractures hiding the patterns. So it tend to be hard to decide whether to grind and polish an agate or not considering the possible of revealing any fractures that are not noticeable in their rough forms. Like Lake Superior Agates, they tend to look best in water-filled jars.
Supposedly, Chinese government declared the Rain Flower Agates as national treasures and restricted any exporting of those agates outside China even there had been some sales via Ebay and other online sites
