The Botswana Agates are a general favorite of many collectors because of their sharp contrasting white, gray and black bands as well as their shadowing effects. White, black and gray are the dominant colors while the colors of brown, lavender, purple, orange, red and yellow are more scarce. There are some pink to white agates found in  the same area as result of weathering. It's usual to see many agates not being large and large nodules had been found from time to time. Since they had been weathered out of their matrix by the rivers, they tend to be fractured.  The differences in the characteristics of the agates seem to hint that they may come from different nearby locations that have been exposed by the rivers.
    The agates in Botswana were said to had been mined in great quantities in 1970s, and now the embargo had been placed on all raw material exports in order to produce the jobs. Only processed materials (beads, tumble-polished, cabs, etc.) can be exported. Recently, as of January 2017, several drums full of agates have been brought to the market.
