Those agates were found in an arid and windy area of Chubut Province, Argentina where the blown sand smoothed and polished the rough surface of the agate nodules ("Sandblasting") that it can be quite hard to grip them when grinding/polishing them. The typical agate is colorless and some agates have been found with  pink, red, orange and yellow colors sometimes in color combos. Known for their strong shadowing effect, the banding pattern of Berwyn agates are comparable to those of Lake Superior and Botswana agates.  It was recently reported that a local volcano brewed out ash that buried the agate field.
