Thundereggs from Wiley Well District, California
South of Blythe, California
It started in 1930s when a man who drove the supply carts to the west and occasionally, he had to take a different route when the main road is flooded or expecting flash floods. The route happened to pass by the thunderegg beds and he noticed their weird shapes. His son, Hauser, started collecting and that started so many decades of rockhounding around the Wiley Well district. That's how the first thunderegg beds discovered are called "Hauser Beds" and eventually, other thunderegg beds such as Potato Patch, Cinnamon, Straw, and Black Hills are discovered.
It can be tough to find any virgin grounds missed by any rockhounds over so many decades but the thundereggs still can be found from time to time with patient digging (or willing to dig deep).
All sites listed are on BLM so they're subject to "25-pound limit per day for personal use only" regulations.
