The Straw Beds refers to the fact that some thundereggs have been found with clear agate showing frosty "straw-like" sagenite inclusions. Like many other sites around Wiley Well, it's heavily explored and dug. It appeared that the main pocket of thundereggs had been commercially mined out. The weathered thundereggs can be found downhill with patient walking around or digging. The agates in thundereggs are mostly clear sometimes with horizontal banding and red, orange or yellow chalcedony coated quartz inclusions. Those with sagenite inclusions are still scarce and I had found only fragments. The Straw Beds seem to be related to Hidden Saddle beds to the west and Black Hills Beds to the northwest (same lava flow that had been normal-faulted?)
