Iroquois Datolites
Iroquois Mine, Cliff, Keweenaw CO., Michigan
.
.    Iroquois Mine was one of few very recent mines to be opened (1949) for exploration purposes, and they had hit on a large seam of datolites. They just dumped them on the piles. most of the datolites found there are white, and some came with gray, and orange to pink dots. The mine dump had been bulldozed only few times I advise against bringing any metal detectors to the mine dumps for the dumps are very rich in the prehnite rocks with bits of copper. The mine is now club owned and there was a red gate placed on the road. It happens that some people frustrated with running out of places to enjoy rockhounding removed the gate (vandalized). I know that it's getting harder to find places to rockhound, but let's not become being so extreme.
