Drexel Datolites
Drexel Mine, Delaware, Keweenaw CO., Michigan
.
Drexel (Drexal/Drexil?) Mine is obviously a failed attempt to locate the copper rich lobes since the mine dump is very small and the datolites started showing up from that mine dump recently. While most datolites are white to opaque gray, few datolites are similar to those of Delaware (pink color) found there and it happens that Drexel Mine is just a mile (or two?) west of Delaware Mine and Connecticut Mine. Some datolites also include some copper inclusions. I managed to find few datolites at one spot at Drexel mine and there may be few more waiting to be found. As of August 2010, few people appeared to have hit on big nest of numerous larger datolites at one spot but most seem to have come up white to gray with some greenish coloring while I'm still finding small but colorful datolites at one different spot. So it's obvious that the miners dug out at least two seams of datolites during their mining expeditions.
