Keweenaw Peninsula of Michigan (Some are obtained by scuba diving) |
| The pebbly beaches along
western-northern side of Keweenaw Peninsula
contain so many small agates and few large ones
had been found from time to time. The
agate-bearing beaches can extend from Wisconsin
border to Keystone Bay south of Keweenaw Point.
Few people like Bob Barron had done scuba-diving
to gather the agates off the lake floor and even
extracted some from the basalt rock host. The
agates can be distinguished from those found in
Minnesota by their usual orange-white colors and
reddish brown smoother skins. |
