TRSE: How To Draw Tutorials:
All about the Eyes in Animanga

When you're interesting in creating your own characters, varying the shape of the eyes are one of several important keys to creating your own characters and you don't really want to have your characters look like they're twins (or "cloned looks"). So it helps to learn to vary the eye shapes by just playing with them.

For example, I gave Tokiyo and Shuang (my own characters) different pairs of eyes that are to make them look somewhat Asiatic, but because of Shuang's personality, her eyes are bit bigger than those of  Tokiyo. Anyone may noticed that my sketches look bit more realistic, but that is the way I like when drawing my own characters. Heh, the pencil sketches are always messy and that's why I encourage anyone to tape the blank papers over their pencil sketches and trace the lines with ink.

This is another example how each (my own) character's eyes differ from
each other to reflect their looks and personalities.

It's okay to look at many Animanga artworks to get an idea of various eye shapes, and go with those you like most or pick out ones that suit your own characters well. Keep in mind is that the eyes in many animangas reflect their gendar, age, looks, personalities and the artists' styles/preferences.  It never hurts to play with the shape of the eyes to get different results, another key to developing your own art style. You never know you might hit on a set of eyes you really like or one that is perfect for your specific character. ^_^
