All about the Eyes in Animanga

The lower eyelids have been added. You can try different ways of drawing the lower eye lids. The lower eyelids can be somewhat flat or crooked as in case of giving them a sad, droopy or even personal look.

The "eye shines" can be added to give the eyes wet or mirrorlike look. Many artists did not seem to realize that the "eye shines" can be visible only if the strong light sources like bright lamps or a flash of the camera are within the sight. I noticed that in many photos that the "eyeshines" seem to be oriented toward the camera with a flash while the "eyeshines" did not seem to be noticable in many National Geographic Society pictures of the people in shades, cloudy or even sunny days due to the fact the cameras were not using flashes on such days. The "eyeshines" didn't exist underwater either! It would be bit complicated to manage the "eyeshines", but don't worry about that and decide on whatever you like to do with the "eyeshines". If you want to be more realistic, just be mindful of whether there are any nearby strong light sources or not and their locations, and it would be silly to include any "eyeshines" in any dark places where there are no nearby light sources. Don't forget the fact that the opening at the center of the eye pupils open and close in response to the brightness of the light like how the center would be very large in dim places while very tiny in very bright places.

The eyebrows have been added. You can decide on what type of eyebrows and their lengths. The male characters tend to lack or have very short eyebrows except for the close-up cases of the eyes while the eye lashes of the female characters tend to be longer and more visible (few lines or multiple lines) which seem to give them more feminine look. You can even give some male characters the longer eyebrows to make them look big girlish. Both male and female characters in Dragon Knights manga were sporting very long eyelashes, obviousily a result of an artist's preference.

The simple eyes are pretty easy to draw once you understand the basics behind drawing the eyes and you can actually play with the eyes to get different forms of the eyes. Let's move on to the next page to see the examples of how I can vary the eye shapes for each characters.
