Tyman River Agates
from Tyman(Timan) River, Siberia, Russia
.
Siberia of Russia is not well explored for agates, but it is a good bet that Siberia will produce quite a number of agates and an example is those coming from Tyman River on the far eastern side of Siberia. The story was that the agates were discovered in-situ the hard basalt bests in 1980s, and the officers of Soviet Union used dynamtes to blow the basalt beds just to see what's there. That often result in the majority of the agates being broken/badly fractured that unfractured agates with excellent and constrasting bluish-gray to white banding commanded high premiums. Right now, I have only one source that can provide Tyman river roughs, and it takes a lot of digging through the stocks just to find very few whole nodules or those that are not too fractured.

All agates are fractured unless stated otherwise.
