Texas Red Plume Agate
Woodward Ranch, South of Alpine, Brewster Co., Texas
.
For many decades, the Woodward Ranch is well known as one of very few ranches in North America that welcome the rockhounders on fee basis and that ranch is in the area where world-famous Texas Red Plume Agates and other types of agate can be found at specific areas around 3000 acres of Woodward Ranch. The agates are found in form of reddish brown "biscuits" from one of the basalt formations. The minerals such as manganese were the first minerals to grow in tree/fern like forms before chemically altered (to produce red colors) and covered by agate. Solid banded agates can be also found in the colors of white, lavendar, colorless, pink, red, yellow, gray, and black. Many of agates I have here for sale are collected mainly by myself and it wasn't easy to find something on the ranch that had been rockhounded for so many years.

Updated October 2010, new specimens has 2010y in their names
I tried to bring out more details on the white background but I'm not pleased with how they came out.
I can assure that they will look more detailed and better when viewed in front of a light source. :)
