Moctezuma Agates
Estacion Moctezuma, Chihuahua Pro., Mexico
.
Moctezuma agates are well known for their wide variety of pastel (light) colors that sometimes contrasted by bold colors, and Moctezuma agate is one of very few agates I know that can have green color. I have cut so many of them that I have come to be very familiar with what's rare and what's common. Most common colors would be white, colorless, ivory, yellow, and tan while brighter colors such as pink, orange, red, and green seems to be more scarce. I noticed that almost all Moctezuma agates have this outer opaque rim(first band/film), very useful tool in identifying the Moctezuma agates. The interesting thing is that some nodules come in the shapes of cigars/tubes, hence, you can get many stabs of same size, shape and color (not always) from cutting such "cigar-like" nodules. They came from a weathered deposit and the fractures and broken nodules are common, but it is possible to obtain more by digging underground. For now they are available only from old stocks.

Updated October 2010, new specimen have 2010y in their code names.
