Marfa Plume Agates
South of Marfa, Presido Co., Texas
.
The Marfa agates have been found along the roadcuts for few decades and they are typically colorless (most are hollow) with some waterlines. Recently the agates with strong blue to black (sometimes constrasting with white) colors have recently emerged from the private lands thru a rockhounder who were given permission to collect on the private ranches in exchange for producing lapidary arts out of them for the ranch owners.  Because of the fact that most agates found south of Marfa are hollow, a small percentage would produce solid agates with the classic constrasting colors of white, black and sblue (possibly most bluish color seen in any agates around the world). Some Marfa agates were found to contain the plumes  ("3D dentrities") that are typically black and white, but the Marfa agates may be the only type of agate I know of to contain brown, yellow, orange, green, pink plumes and sometimes even a combo of those colors ("Marfa Bouquet") .

Updated October 2010, new specimen have 2010y in their code names..
I realize that it may be hard to see any plume structures in here, but please feel free to ask for close-up scans of any interested specimens.
You also can ask for pictures of the pieces in front of the light to reveal plume structures.
