Rain Flower Agates
Yangtze River, Nanjing, China
.
Those really colorful and strongly patterned agates were found along the shores of Yangtze River coming from the source somewhere up in the Himalayas Mountains on the side of Tibet and many agates have been broken and worn into well rounded flat pebbles. Looking like natural Lake Superior Agates in pebble form found along the beaches or river, the patterns of the agates can be compared to those of Brazillian Agates, Laguna agates and Laker Superior Agates. Some agates displays the patterns so well that it's not necessary to polish them while some agates would need some grinding and polishing to remove the crescent-like fractures masking the patterns as a result of being trumbled rather roughly. So it's always a hard decision whether to grind and polish an agate or not considering the possible of revealing any fractures that are not quite noticable in their rough forms. Like Lake Superior Agates, they tend to look great in water-filled jars.

Note: I recently contacted the supplier of Rain Flower Agates and he was unable to obtain any agates due to some troubles (I didn't ask).
Note: Due to their natural pebble shapes, all agates are tumble-polished unless when stated otherwise.
Please excuse the white bar of reflection that came from the scanner's light itself
