Because of his ugly and deformed
appearance, Topaz was considered one of most inferior creature on the world
of Black Moon where most Black Moon members judge by just their appearances,
and yet despite his poor treatment, he upheld the cause of the Black Moon.
Saphir (Sapphire) and later, Taffe were the only ones who treated him as
a friend. Saphir was so impressed by Topaz's scientific knowledge that
he put his knowledge to a good use.
Because of his deformity, he was very inferior in terms
of both physical and power capablities, but his brains made up for his
weaknesses. He built many machines needed to keep the world of Black Moon
functioning using materials provided by Saphir. He couldn't speak, but
he can link telepathically with the hovering translator droid built by
Topaz for purposes of verbal commuciations.
During the crisises, he would be so
busy with building and running the machines that he didn't have time to
bathe, nor to sleep, as a result, he smells awful and always weary.
The people of Black Moon had became so addicted to the
negative powers of the Wiseman that they can't survive without Wiseman's
powers. They began dying when Sailor Moon destroyed the Wiseman, but Topaz
was able to save what remained of the Black Moon clan by inventing the
life support devices that used Saphir's dark crystals to sustain the people
of Black Moon. Due to the limited supply of the dark crystals, Topaz had
been devising plots to free his people from the addiction to the dark crystals,
and the Sailor Senshi and the Silver Crystal ended up as his targets. |

His intelligence compensated for his weak
and deformed body as well as lack of dark powers. He used his scientific
knowledge to invent and build anything to suit his needs, but he tend to
do anything alone. Because of that, what he built tend to be very simple
meaning that any robots he built will look boxy or goofy, and often lousy
so unlike those fancy-looking mobile suits of Gundam Wing. |

Saphir was the only one known to have
treated Topaz with respect and appreciate his knowledge of science. Often,
Saphir and Topaz worked together to build many things needed to run the
Black Moon as well as the fleet of UFO spaceships. Taffe later started
to appreciate Topaz in spite of her problems with some aspects of Topaz's
irregular personality. |

Topaz had his own personal UFO spaceship
that acted as a manufacturing factory and because of that function, Topaz's
ship was eight times larger than Rubeus's UFO ship. Topaz earned his tactical
advantages over the Sailor Senshi by forcing them to enter his ship. All
he did was have Tourmele kidnap Usagi Tsukino and bring her to his ship.
Topaz was responsible for manufacture of the UFO spaceships used by Prince
Demand to carry out his war against the Earth.
Rubeus and Topaz's ships were the only ships capable of
time travel. |

Topaz also built a refueling base
hidden on the dark side of the moon which always face away from the Earth,
and its purpose was recharge the fleet of UFO spaceships arriving from
Nemesis in preparations for the siege of the Earth. Fortunately for the
people of Earth, the moon base was somehow destroyed (Sailor Venus's fault),
and the fleet of UFO ships were left half powered. But Prince Demand was
too arrogant for that, and proceeded with his war against the Earth resulting
in unnecessarily heavy casualties. |

Since Topaz had to handle inventing
and building by himself, he rarely had any time for double-checking and
maintaining anything he built (he even didn't have time to bathe!). Because
of that, malfunctions were common, and some were life threatening. Taffe
always had to remind Topaz to double-check anything he intend to use. |
