Kentucky Agates
Estill, Powell, and parts of Jackson Counties, Kentucky
.
.    Kentucky, USA is known for its agate & quartz concretions which appeared to be originally crinoid heads and other fossils in the limestone that had been expanded by evaporate minerals such as gypsum tha are later dissolve leaving behind any cavities for agate and quartz to fill in. Since they were found mostly along the rivers coming from the limestone formations, they tend to be widely fractured. Any colors beside yellow and black are quite rare with the color combination of pitch black and deep red lines being most desired.

All specimens contain varying degree of fractures unless noted otherwise.
