Orellanita ("Crater") Agates
Province of Chubut, Argentina, Patagonia, South America
.
Known as eye-catching "Crater Agate" given by Luis which refers to the fact that the agates were found close to a volcano crater even it may be more correct to call them "Orellanita Agates" after the owner of the land where those agates are found. The typical colors are just black, very dark gray and dark yellow, and I have seen very few with blue color (rare?). Almost all agates are hollow, and the interior surface tend to be coated with heulandite and other zeolite minerals. Some agates were found with strong red hollow centers making them quite desirable. Rare to find any crater agates that have not been fractured and they are not easy to come by due to the remote location up in the mountains of Alps as in matter of fact, any unfractured agates tend to be high-priced, and higher if with red hollow interiors.

Please excuse the dust (white spots), I always have trouble with dust easily attracted to my scanner.
All contain varying degrees of fractures unless state otherwise.
