Apache Agates,
Ejido El Apache, Chihuahua Pro., Mexico
.
I seem to not have much of luck with Apache Agates after going thru piles of "leftover" greenish-skinned reddish Apache agates at a Lordsburg rock shop once owned by a pioneer agate rockhounder who mined many Mexican agates especially Apache Agates in 1960s. Most agates are hollow and often filled with quartz or calcite makign them rather uninteresting, but there have been some cases of highly desired solid agates especially those containing swirls of red, brown, orange and yellow not limited to the typically colorless bands. Recently, Gem Shop Inc made an attempt at mining the Apache mine, and ended up declaring the site to be not commerically viable despite obtaining few hundred pounds of nodules. So the only way to get any good Apache agates is to get them from any old lapidary collections or visit the Apache mine itself and hope to be lucky enough to find some
