Isle Royale Datolites
From the old mines and
offshore areas of Isle Royale,
Michigan
Field-collecting Status: National
Park, No Collecting!
.
It
appears that few people did visit Isle Royale island in the past
and
collected some datolites from the mine pits before the federal
government
placed a ban on any rock collecting on the island. The old
collection of
datolites from the pits of Isle Royale recently showed up and I
was able to obtain
few datolites from it. Most datolites seem to be white with pink
centers
and few coming with orange and yellow colors.
Also, some people collected a bunch of
datolites while scuba-diving before the ban was in full effect and
many colorless to light green datolites with prehnite inclusions were
collected while few bright-colored datolites were found.
