Red Hot Thundereggs
50 miles out of USA border, near Sonora/Chihuahua Border, Mexico
.
One of few thundereggs to come with boldy colored agate cores, they tend to be passed as "Sonoran Thundereggs or "Berida Agates" but I have ran into "Red Hot thundereggs" more often than those two other trade names. The "Red Hot" name refers to the fact that some thundereggs contain deep red colored agate that can be compared to the red hot chili peppers. They come in other colors such as purple, orange, yellow and many shades of red with some being very bold. Since they were dug out of weathered deposits, it seems quite common to find any Red Hot thundereggs to be fractured and it's still difficult to obtain any high-quality unfractured specimens from them.

Rough Appearance: Tan thundereggs with ridges and "bubbly" surface, sometimes showing hint of red agate.
Agates are mostly red to purple, sometimes with yellow and white colors, commonly fractured.
Hint of red agate in tan thundereggs are dead giveaways.

Typical specimen with fractures Another typical specimen. Still the most outstanding specimen
I have seen so far.
Usually bright colors without fractures With rare sagenite inclusions.
