"Over the Hill" Agates
Few miles west of Baker Egg Mine,
Hermanas, Luna Co., New Mexico
.
One of many minor spots all over the Baker Ranch where small agate cores (weathered from thundereggs) have been found. Someone I know name Bob discovered a spot where many small orangish agate cores have been found and he gave me the directions to it. It  turned out to be a long hike where I would have to cross a fence, a stretch of grassland and go over the big hills, hence, the nickname "Over the hills" for the agates. It took me a while to find that small spot and lot of agate cores are all over. Most are geode, but few have produce outstanding agates with good colors. The colors are typically colorless with reddish to purplish tints. Some agates have been found with bright colors and shadowing effects and it is not known if there are any interests in the mining of that spot. It should be noted that "Over the Hill" is a temporay name till I learn of the correct name given by the first discoverer of the agates.
