The agates were found in very large thundereggs
just south of US-Mexico border and the problem is that the very large thundereggs
tend to contain thin crescent-like agate cores near the top. So the miners
would break down the large thundereggs to extract the agate cores out,
making it quite rare to find a whole and undamaged agate core leave alone
an entire thunderegg itself. The colors are typically dull yellow to brown
and the bandings tend to be faint, but there had been some finds of Jano
Agates coming in red, bright yellow, pink, purple and pink colors with
some being tight-banded. I prefer to call them "Janos Thundereggs" instead
of "Rainbow Agates" to avoid any confusion with the fact that the Brazillian
Agates from a specific location and some Japanese agates are passed as
"Rainbow Agates"
