Dwarves' Earth Treasures Museum:
Janos ("Rainbow") Thundereggs
Janos, Chihuahua Province, Mexico
.
The agates were found in large reddish thundereggs just south of US-Mexico border and the problem is that the large thundereggs tend to contain thin crescent-like agate cores. So the miners would break down the large thundereggs to extract the agate cores out, making it quite rare to find a whole and undamaged agate core. The colors are typically dull yellow to brown and the bandings tend to be faint, but there had been some finds of Jano Agates coming in red, bright yellow, pink, purple and pink colors with some being tight-banded with strong shadowing effects. I prefer to call them "Janos Thundereggs" instead of "Rainbow Agates" to avoid any confusion with the fact that the Brazillian Agates from a specific location and some Japanese agates are passed as "Rainbow Agates". The "Rainbow Agate" may be referred to the crescent-like shape of the agate cores.
Rough Appearance: Broken  reddish chunks with crescent-like agates usually showing.
All broken from large thundereggs by miners just to get to agate cores.

Rare to find a Janos thunderegg this big with so much agate in it.
