Straw Beds Thundereggs
Wiley Well District, south of Bythne, California
The Straw Beds refers to the fact that some thundereggs have been found with clear agate showing frosty "straw-like" sagenite inclusions. Like many other sites around Wiley Well, it's heavily explored and dug. It appeared that the main pocket of thundereggs had been mined out, but weathered thundereggs can be found downhill with patient walking around or digging. The agates in thundereggs are mostly clear sometimes with "waterline" features and red, orange or yellow chalcedony coated quartz inclusions. Those with sagenite inclusion are still scarce. The Straw Beds seem to be related to Hidden Saddle beds to the west and Black Hills Beds to the northwest.
