Dwarves' Earth Treasures Museum: Baker Egg Thundereggs Collected
by JeffreyA.
during March 2010 Mining expedition
Baker Egg Mine, Hermanas, Luna
Co., New Mexico
.
The mining expeditions to the Baker Egg Mine still continue as the
miners work on a stratrum that seem to be getting deeper and deeper as
they kept backhoing at it. Right now they're struggling to remove massive
rhyolite body that seem to interrupt the stratrum but we did find
more amethyst geodes than usual while trying to loosen the rhyolite body
and few ended up in my collection. :) I missed the Saturday dig where they
supposedly hit on a good pocket of colorful Baker Eggs but we went through
the "good ore" pile again and I was able to obtain some more colorful Baker
Eggs. Afterward, the producation is sporadic where we would get some good
thundereggs while getting a lot of junk thundereggs over most of the time.
They did not bring up any fresh materials to dump on the piles mainly due
to the scarcity of good thundereggs. As of March 2010, Paul Calburn is
still alive.
Rough Appearance: Light gray colored with "bubbly" surfaces and usually
showing flow bands.
Can be confused with those found at Tavenier, Pastel Eggs and Lindsburg
Sites,
but it's safe to assume that any "Baker Ranch" roughs came from Baker
Egg Mine.
When cut, agates are typically red, pink and white, mostly hollow.
Rare black and orange color combo
The only one I have ever found with strong green, blue, pink and even
TRUE PURPLE colors
