Dwarves' Earth Treasures Museum: Black Desert Thunderegg
Gerlach, near Nevada/Idaho Border
.
There are a thundergg site found
somewhere along Nevada and Idaho border that are producing large reddish
thundereggs with black to gray agates within them. Most thundereggs were
too big for me when I wanted are smaller ones but I was able to find some
thundereggs that are small enough for me to cut and polish. Most thundereggs
seem to be generally hollow, lined with blackish gray agate and sometimes
quartz and the rhyolite shells tend to be thick. There appears to be some
yellowish plume-like inclusions in some agates. They do remind me of the
thundereggs from Black Hills at Wiley Well District, California which can
be a cause for confusion except that the rhyolite shells are more reddish.
