Dwarves' Earth Treasures Museum:
West Java Purple Agates
West Java, Indesonia, Asia
.
Usually, it is quite hard to get any agates from Asia mainly due to the fact that the agates are in heavy demand by Chinese for carving purposes. The agates especially West Java Purple Agate are passed as "Purple Chalcedony" and sold by gram just like chryosprase (green agate). I was very fortunate to came across some West Java Purple Agates sold by kilograms instead of grams and at lower prices too and earned myself some good specimen.
The colors of the West Agate range from purplish gray to purple, hence "Purple Chalcedony" and occasionally come with white, yellow and red colors. Some agates contain some good shadowing effects, and  plume-like inclusions, but I have not been able to got one with very obvious plume-like structures yet.

Rough Appearance: Cone-like to "shoe-shaped" nodules usually with heavy pitting.
Bleached agate bands will show on weathered broken nodules that can be deceiving.

The gap may have been what left of decompsed calcite crystals.

This is the desired "Purple Chalcedony" type
cabbed in similar manner as chryoprase and "Blue Holly"
It's rare to find a West Agate wtih some reddish tint.
Some shadowing effect in the lighter colored center.
Very unusual colors which may be due to
heavy weathering by heavy tropical rains.
Amethyst center, some shadowing along yellowish bands

Very large and the first West Java Agate I have obtained.
