Dwarves' Earth Treasures Museum: Praire Agates
South Dakota, USA
.
This is kind of agate that is commonly mistakened as
Fairburn Agates which are rarely come in large sizes. They appear to be
some kind of agatized chert nodules that has been rounded by weathering.
Such weathering gave the agates the wave-like patterns of black, tan and
white colors and most agates are black to white inside, sometimes with
tan and red colors. What distingish the Praire agates from Fairburn agates
are their large sizes and irregular patterns.
