Dwarves' Earth Treasures Museum:
Gobi Desert Agates
Mongolia, Asia
.
The agates came from the remote parts of Gobi Desert in Mongolia and it's hard to obtain any good stuff from that area because of its extreme remoteness and climate, making them rather limited in availablity. Chinese dealers have recently brought boxes with jasper, petrified wood and agates mixed in to Tuscon shows. The surface of the rough was smoothened from so many centuries of sand carrying winds ("sandblasting") that they're quite hard to hold while grinding/polishing. Most agates seem to be clear with some faint banding while the colorful ones are scarce. Some agates contain yellow to red plumelike structures.
