Dwarves' Earth Treasures Museum: "Zig-Zag" Agates from Czech Republic
Horni Halce or Medenec, Czech Republic, Europe
.
The story was that Medence and Horni Halce was a site
of old copper and silver mining where the miners would throw away any agates
as unwanted product in search for silver-copper rich minerals. It's possible
to search the mine dumps for any orangish vein agate fragments and it would
take a great deal of luck to find some. I was lucky to find those two at
a rock shop. :) The people have different ideas on how they formed, but
my idea is that they seem to have formed around thin calcite blades in
the narrow seams and the random arrangements of the calcite blades would
produce "Zig-Zagging"(or stacking) agate patterns. Many pieces contain
contain metallic inclusions.
