Dwarves' Earth Treasures Museum:
Orellanita ("Crater") Agates
Province of Chubut, Argentina, Patagonia, South America
.
.    First discovered on the Orellanita Ranch, they are better known as Crater Agate (or Red Fox Agate) which refers to the fact that the agates are said to be found close to an ancient crater of volcano. I don't know if that's true or not since I would expect them to be foond in the limestone host, judging from its concretion-like forms. It was insisted that they be called "Orellanita Agates" after the owner of the land where those agates are found. The typical colors are  black, very dark gray and dark yellow, and I have seen very few ones with blue color (rare?). Almost all agates are hollow, and tend to be coated with heulandite and other zeolite minerals, and some contain hematite inclusions. Some black agates come with bright red hollow centers making them quite desirable, and like many agates from Argentina, it is rare to find any crater agates that have not been fractured. The Crater Agates have became quite a favorite agate of mine coming out of Argentina.

Rough Appreance: Usually cauliflower-shaped with very rough/pricky surface. Some are smoothier surface due to weathering.
