Coyamito Agates
Rancho De Coyamito, Chihuahua Province, Mexico
.
.    Even they have been known since 1960s, Gem Shop Inc. recently started mining the Coyamito agates. It turns out that the typical colors are red, pink and light blue to purple colors, and any solid agates showing strong banding and strong colors are somewhat rare. I have gone through barrels of Coyamito agates and most are hollow and filled with quartz. The classic color combos would be purple & yellow combo, and orange & yellow combo with strong shadowing effects. The Coyamito agates are also well known for their excellent pseudomorphs (aragonite crystals replaced by colorful agate). It must be pointed out that some similar agates from other nearby locations such as Aparejos and Demasche agates may be mixed with coyamitos.
