The agates of Coldwater
Quarry at Vinton tend to be white to gray and it appears that they come
in form of concretions coming from the same limestone formation as those
of Union Road agates found south of St. Louis, Missouri. They supposedly
was obtained when a quarry in Iowa was opened for limestone mining before
being closed few years later.
