The Sky Blue Mine was discovered and opened by Paul "GeodeKid"'
Calburn's partner Bill Anderson, and many large thundereggs have been mined
from a narrow and vertical strata. It is very common for the Sky Blue thundereggs
to be a form of bioconiod(two points/saucer-like) and trioconoids (three
points) containing white to bluish gray agate and that kind of thunderegg
make an excellent demontration of how a cavity within the molten thunderegg
is forced open by gases coming out of the cooling lava to be later filled
in agate-forming solutions.
The Sky Blue Mine is well known for being one of few thunderegg locations to produce large thundereggs with strong shadowing effects and other interesting things have also been there too. The examples are those containing black calcite crystals, and rarely black sagenite-like blades with some of them can demonstrate how Polyhedroids Agates were formed. I think Paul "GeodeKid" Calburn still retains a claim on the Sky Blue Mine since there may be still some some more thundereggs yet to be dug out as I have found out when I was digging at his mine with his permission. |
