Dwarves' Earth Treasures Museum: Algerian Agates
Sahara Desert of Algeria, Africa
.
I first encountered few Algerian Agates at one of the
Tuscon shows. It was qutie a surprise knowing how difficult is it to get
any agates from North Africa mainly due to the fact that the European and
African agates are usually taken by European collectors first. They
were found in the windy and sandy areas in south of Algeria and the agates
found there had been smoothened by the sand-carrying wings.
The agates seem to be typically featureless
with yellow to brown colors while few agates come with colorful banding.
I have seen so few of them so I'm quite sketchy with information on their
characteristics.
Pardon the fractures, but it's the only banded agate I have seen among
few Algerian agates I checked so far.
