    The agate layers are normally "locked" to each other in a way that an entire agate breaks like glass even agate is much tougher than glass due to its microcrystalline structure. But there are some agates which its layers can be peeled a layer by layer as typical of  weathered agates like some Lake Superior Agates, Wavehill agates and Crazy Lace agates.
