TRSE: How To Draw Tutorials:
"Patience, Determination, Brains and Never Stop Trying!"

Not Quite a Good Drawer, huh?
"Level 01"
(Novice)
"Level 45"
(Highly Skilled)
...................... .......................
So what do this quote means? Well, that is something most best artists have: Being patient with oneself's evolving skills, being determined to improve oneself, using brains to solve drawing problems, and never ever quit.

Patience is most essential of the artists' virtues. I had been listening to the impatient and discouraged novice drawers complaining about how they suck at drawing.  Come on, it's natural for us to be suck at drawing when we start drawing. That's where patience comes in. We have to be patient with our currently skills and take our time to continuously improve our skills. There is no way we can become great artists overnight. One can whine about how he/she can't be as good as one artist, but hey, he/she one just started, ad that artist already had several years worth of drawing experience. Learning to draw is like having the heros fight in any role-playing games to gain experience in order to level up.
Look at myself, it took me five years to be this good at drawing, and the first drawings I had looked pretty bad compared to new ones. That didn't stop me, I just kept going on because I know that I'll get better over time. ^_^ So it goes like this: when you start drawing, you're at Level One, and I'm at Level 30 due to five years of practice. So you have to be patient, and keep practicing in order to "level up".

Determination is what keeps the artists going and going without giving up in spite of rather discouraging drawing results they get sometimes. I had had discouraging results with my drawing skills, and I sometimes was not happy with the drawings I did (which is somewhat true for a number of pics in those tutorials), but that didn't stop me. I just kept going on, and drawing more new pictures, always looking for means of improving y drawing skills.

Brains are very important because you need to use your brains to figure out the drawing problems and patterns. Creativity, imagination, logic, knowledge, and anything else in your brains are always important to any learning processes. After all, what good will any artists do if they don't use their brains? You have to think to figure out the ways of improving your drawing skills and solve the drawing problems (like how can I draw that thing?) So don't stop learning and thinking!
I was able to learn to draw on MY OWN WITHOUT ANY HELP for five years, and that's because I'm using my brains. I had encountered a great deal of drawing problems while doing the massive fanfic manga projects, and I was able to overcome almost all of them. ^_^  I have to admit that it saddens me that I couldn't understand why would so many people fail to grasp the simple drawing concepts, and being so dependent on all of the tutorials and books out there. Then they gave up too easily, which may be because they didn't get the concept of drawing (either they didn't use their brains or not getting enough knowledge?)...  Science helps, but not required as long as one is very observant, but science can greatly enhance the understanding of what was observed.

Now the so-called "Natural Talent", which describes how an artist being able to learn to draw so quickly as if she/he was born with natural drawing talent. It can happen that a person grasps the drawing concepts very quickly and learn to draw well in a short time, while other person couldn't grasp the concepts well, and taking up a lot of time to draw something. It's natural for everyone to have different learning progresses. The ability to learn is enchanced by strong interest in a specific subject. If you love to draw, you'll learn at a faster pace than other drawers with weaker interests in drawing. ^_^  The age does not matter because the people start learning how to draw different times (different ages). How quickly a person can learn to draw also depends on how much time is allocated to learning to draw. If you draw just one picture a month (due to school, friends, anything else), you're learning to draw at a slow pace, but if you're willing to allocate more time to learning how to draw (like five fanarts a month), you'll learn at faster pace. Let's say that Michiru(Michelle) is very skilled at drawing because she was very interested in it. Thus, she was willing to spend so much time learning the drawing skills. Minako(Mina) is a lousy drawer, because she's more interested in other things like spending her time with her friends, gym activities, and video games. She was unwilling to allocate some time to learning how to draw. It can be pretty discouraging if your friend learned to draw well at faster pace than you do, but don't let that eat at you. Just keep learning to draw on your own pace!  ^_^

So to make the point, please check those old fanarts and those that I redrew. You can see the differences between the old and new ones as result of my five year worth of learning, experimenting and practicing. I still won't stop! ^_^

Gods & Goddesses of Greek Mythology:
    Mercury (Hermes)(Old)    Mercury (Hermes)(New)
    Saturn (Cronus)(Old)    Saturn (Cronus)(New)
Planets of the Solar System:
    Mercury, Neptune

So as you can see, if I can be this patient, determined, using my brains, and never stop trying, then you can too! ^_^ Don't get discouraged and whine about how your drawing skills suck, just give yourself time, and keep going on and on (don't stop!). In time you'll get get better. ^_^
