There is a couple
of abandoned pits hidden behind a hill somewhere northeast
of Baker Egg Load Mine. I learned from "Paul "GeodeKid"
Calburn that it was opened by Eddie & Emma Lindburg, who
also started mining the Baker Egg Load Mine (1950s) before
passing it to Paul "GeodeKid" Calburn. The original name of
the mine appeared to be forgetten, so I referred it as a
"Lindburg Pits" in honor of Lindburgs. The mine seemed to
had been backhoed for a short time before being abandoned
when they discovered the Baker Eggs. Most thundereggs
contain thin crescent-like cavities with typical colors
being bluish gray with characteristic reddish primary bands
and I have found some better thundereggs that look simlar to
to the Baker Eggs.. The best finds were the ones with
contrasting red, white, black and yellow bands which appear
to be exclusive to this site. The mine has a potential to
produce some more good thundereggs. The reddish primary band
will distinguish the Lindburg Thundereggs from the Baker
Eggs. It should be note that there is a 2nd pit to the east
across the BLM-State land boundary and it's best to leave it
alone.
Site Status: As of Jan
2022, both sides of the BLM-State boundary still are
under claims/lease.
It's OK to walk on BLM side of the
claim but please don't dig without permission.
