Dwarves' Earth Treasures Museum:
JA's Little Wash Thundereggs
Hermanas, Luna Co., New Mexico
Associated with Tavenier Mine.
pic .    I first spotted a bright pink & red agate just laying there in the little wash cutting through the placer deposit plowed by Taveniers, the original owners of Tavenier Mine. I started poking at that spot, and finding slightly colorful agates and plenty of horizontally banded thundereggs. Next year, I accidentally discovered an Iris Agate in one thunderegg when I re-cut it to bypass a fracture and I have started calling them the "Iris Thundereggs" (or Iris Eggs for short).  When I showed the "Iris Thunderegg" to Paul "GeodeKid" Calburn whom I considered an expert on local thundereggs, he said that he have collected the thundereggs from at least 75 locations in the West, and I may be the first person he know of to have discovered the iris agates in the thundereggs. He suggested that I give a name to the place to distinguish it from the Tavenier Mine which seems to be lacking in Iris agates.  Thus, I gave the name "JA's Little Wash" to that place where I first found the "JA's Little Wash Iris Thundereggs".
However!.....to my dismay, I later learned that the place is located on an unmarked state land and that's the kind of place that is best left alone. Please refer to Tavenier Mine page to find out what happened with this area and why I had to stop digging there.

Site Status: As of Jan 2022, the site is under Section 640 lease by Spanish Stirrup Shop, so please leave that place alone.

My first find! March 2004
I was tempted to cut this to check for Iris
but it looked too nice to be cut.
If I cut it, I'd get a quartz core. March 2008
