The maps did not show
any names for the hill with prospecting pits and I was told
that it's situated on Butler Ranch on the south side of
Baker Ranch, so it's referred as just "Butler Hill" for now.
The hill is enriched in rhyolite lava flows with several
small and scattered pockets of thundreggs. The quality
thundereggs containing colorful agate cores are few in
numbers and sparsely scattered widely over the hill.
That makes it tough to search for them among the numerous
duds even there are some hints of pockets hidden
underground. Pete Ghitney already located and mined one
pocket referred as "Blue Star" but turned out to be a bust
in commercial sense.
Most agates found there are gray to white
often with white to orange inclusions and few came out with
bright red, orange, yellow and purple colors and it's
possible to find few that rival the Mexican agates. The
Geode-centered thundereggs are quite common.
